Student Checkpoint

Check your progress. Plan your next steps.

Your Student Checkpoint is a simple way to think about how your studies are going, what you need to focus on next, and whether you need any support from your trainer. It is your opportunity to take a moment, look at your progress and make sure you are moving in the right direction.

You do not need to wait until you are behind or have a problem.

Know where you are up to. See what to do next. Get support if you need it.

Why book a Student Checkpoint?

Your studies can be affected by many things, including work, travel, family commitments, visa plans or changes in your personal circumstances.

A short conversation with your trainer can help you:

  • understand where you are up to in your course
  • identify what you should focus on next
  • discuss any questions or difficulties
  • get feedback on your course progress
  • plan your study around work, travel or other commitments
  • ask for support before a small issue becomes a bigger one
  • set a clear goal for your next stage of study
The aim is simple: help you stay informed, organised and on track.

Before you book

Take a few minutes to think about these six questions before meeting with your trainer.

Do you have any travel, holiday, work, visa, further study, family or personal plans that may affect your studies?

Thinking ahead can help you plan what needs to be completed before your circumstances change.

Are you enjoying your classes and participating comfortably?

Are some parts of the course challenging?

Is there anything you would like more help understanding?

Think about whether you are completing your course tasks and assessments as expected.

Are you on track, or are there areas you need to catch up on?

If you are not sure, your trainer can help you understand where you currently stand.

Think about when and how you complete your course tasks.

Do you have regular study time?

Are you completing work during class?

Do you sometimes leave tasks until close to the due date?

Small changes to your study routine can make a big difference over time.

Your trainer may be able to help you with:

  • understanding what to focus on next
  • study strategies
  • course content
  • assessment tasks
  • feedback on your progress
  • planning your study around upcoming commitments

You do not need to have a serious problem before asking for help.

Think about one or two things you would like to improve.

For example:

  • attend classes more regularly
  • participate more actively
  • manage your study time better
  • complete your course tasks as planned
  • catch up on outstanding work
  • improve your understanding of the course
  • ask for help earlier when you need it
  • improve your overall course progress

Try to leave your checkpoint with one clear goal and one clear next step.

Your checkpoint is a short one-to-one conversation with your trainer.

It is not intended to be a long meeting or another assessment.

Your trainer will use the conversation to help you understand:

  • Where am I now?
  • What do I need to do next?
  • Is anything getting in the way?
  • What support would help me?
  • What will I work towards before my next checkpoint?

For many students, the checkpoint may simply confirm that everything is going well and that you are on track.

If you need help, it gives you an opportunity to discuss it early.

Planning travel or time away?

If you are thinking about travelling or taking time away later in the year, your checkpoint is a good opportunity to discuss your plans with your trainer.

You can find out:

  • what you should complete before you leave
  • whether you have any outstanding course work
  • what you will need to focus on when you return
  • how to stay organised around your study commitments

Planning early can make returning to your studies much easier.

Need support?

Ask early.

You can speak with your trainer about your course progress, study questions, upcoming plans or anything that may be making your studies more difficult.

You do not need to wait until a problem becomes serious.
