  • Dismantling and removing engines, transmissions and steering systems
  • Repairing old, worn or broken parts
  • Performing routine maintenance and check-ups
  • Reassembling engines and parts
  • Testing components after repair to ensure proper performance
  • Using computers to diagnose issues and test components
  • Talking to customers and clients

There are a lot of factors involved in becoming a mechanic, but the most important is training. Some people get into the industry through extensive experience working with engines, however most people study to gain their expertise.

There are several courses available to students, depending on your level of experience and training. You can find all of the courses offered by CAC here. To work as a motor mechanic, you must have completed at least Certificate III in a relevant field. Courses can last between 26 and 52 weeks.
